Colegio Base was founded in 1962 by a group of university graduates who were inspired by the educational ideas of the Free Educational Institution, which had been committed to educational, cultural and social renewal since 1876, and was at that time the channel through which the most advanced educational and scientific theories were being introduced into Spain.
Since then, it has been a private school where students can study from the age of one up to Baccalaureate.
Its educational activity began in a small house in the north of Madrid which was dedicated to Pre-School Education. In subsequent years, courses and levels were expanded to include all the steps leading to University admission.
At the beginning of the 1980-1981 academic year, the school moved to La Moraleja, and in September 2012 opened its Infants and Toddlers Educational Centre in La Moraleja, calle Salvia 26, exclusively for students of that age.
Colegio Base is a medium-sized centre, thus offsetting the problems of overcrowding seen at large centres and the resource limitations seen at the smaller ones.
